English Rose Climbers

English Rose Climbers

The English Roses pictured below all make the most excellent climbers – in fact, we believe they are, as a group, the best of all climbing roses. They are vigorous, without being too tall, and so are easy to manage. They repeat flower with exceptional continuity and, during the flowering season, are clothed in blooms from the top all the way down to the base of the plant. The number of stems they produce from the base of the plant is very generous, so there is plenty to work with when fanning them out on walls, trellises or fences. They are also ideal for growing on pillars, pergolas, arches and obelisks.

    The Generous Gardener

    English Climbing Rose
A rose of delicate charm with beautifully formed flowers, which nod gracefully on the stem. When the petals open they expose numerous stamens, providing an almost water lily-like effect. The flowers are a pale glowing pink, shading to palest pink on the outer petals. There is a strong and delicious fragrance with aspects of Old Rose, musk and myrrh. The leaves are a pale greyish green and they stay on until late into the winter. DavidᅠAustin, 2002.

    Shropshire Lass

    English Climbing Rose
One of our tallest English climbers. Its large, single, blush white flowers fade gradually to white, each with a prominent bunch of stamens. They have a delicious myrrh fragrance. Even though it does not repeat, it produces a magnificent display in early summer and goes on to bear many hips in autumn. It also makes a wonderful support for clematis later in the season. DavidᅠAustin, 1968.
