Most Fragrant English Roses

Everyone has a different perception of scent but the English Roses listed below are the varieties we consider to be the most fragrant. The English Roses are famous for the diversity and strength of their fragrances, with many varieties having won awards, both nationally and internationally, for their delicious fragrances which can be Old Rose, Tea, fruity, myrrh, musky or almost any mixture of these elements. To make the most of their heady scents, we recommend planting them near to the house or alongside paths and seating areas in the garden.

    Bears flowers of the most perfect formation – shallow cups of the purest mid pink. They flower very freely from early summer until well into the autumn and have a strong, pure Old Rose fragrance. It has an excellent bushy habit with upright, vigorous growth. Maturing into an attractively rounded shrub; it flowers almost to the ground. Named after the Royal Horticultural Society’s garden in Yorkshire, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the society’s formation. David Austin, 2004.

    Bears beautifully formed flowers, which nod gracefully on the stem. When the petals open they expose numerous stamens, providing an almost water lily-like effect.     The perfectly formed, shallow cups are pure light pink, paling to soft blush on the outer petals. There is a strong, warm myrrh fragrance. It forms an attractive, quite broad shrub, with slightly arching stems. The leaves are tinged red at first, later turning green.     Bears rich yellow flowers, which pale over time. Their formation is most pleasing, having a neat outer ring of petals enclosing an informal group of petals within.     A very free-flowering rose, bearing very large, incurved, chalice-shaped flowers. The petals are medium yellow on the inside and pale yellow on the outside. Its outstanding fragrance is extremely strong with a delicious fruity note reminiscent of guava and sweet white wine. It forms an upright shrub, with bushy growth and light green leaves.
