Most Fragrant English Roses

Most Fragrant English Roses

Everyone has a different perception of scent but the English Roses listed below are the varieties we consider to be the most fragrant. The English Roses are famous for the diversity and strength of their fragrances, with many varieties having won awards, both nationally and internationally, for their delicious fragrances which can be Old Rose, Tea, fruity, myrrh, musky or almost any mixture of these elements. To make the most of their heady scents, we recommend planting them near to the house or alongside paths and seating areas in the garden.

  1. The Mill on the Floss

    The Mill on the Floss

    English Shrub Rose
Bears large clusters of neat, deeply cupped blooms, each with a small boss of stamens. Initially mid pink, verging on lilac-pink, they pale as they open, the individual petals beautifully defined by their carmine edges. Held above the foliage, they nod gracefully on gently arching growth, and have a sweet fruity fragrance. A healthy variety; it makes a bushy shrub, clothed in glossy foliage. Named after the novel by George Eliot. David Austin, 2018.

  2. Royal Jubilee

    Royal Jubilee

    English Shrub Rose
The deep chalice-shaped blooms are very beautiful, the petals incurving so that we can only just see the stamens within. The colour is a lovely deep pink with paler pink on the underside of the petals. Thin, wiry stems show off the flowers with the utmost elegance. There is a lovely fruity fragrance with a hint of blackcurrants. David Austin, 2012.
