Many of David Austin’s English Roses have won awards, both nationally and internationally, for their delicious fragrances and outstanding garden performance as shrubs and as climbers. A number of varieties are recipients of the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) Award of Garden Merit (AGM). The AGM awards are designed to help gardeners make informed choices about plants. Only plants meeting its high standards for outstanding quality and reliable garden performance bear the prestigious RHS stamp of approval. Other accolades include The Nation’s Favourite Rose for ‘Gertrude Jekyll‘ and The World’s Favourite Rose for ‘Graham Thomas’.

    Rambling Rose
    A healthy, tough and extremely vigorous rose with spreading growth. Flowering later than most ramblers, in June-July, it bears massive heads of small, white flowers with a strong, musky fragrance. They are held in beautiful, flat-topped, cascading clusters, known as corymbs, with each flower facing outwards. Masses of small, oval shaped, coral-red hips follow the flowers. Murrell, 1964.

    Rambling Rose
    A healthy and completely reliable rambler. It is smothered with huge bunches of small, single blooms. These are blush white, delicately tinted with soft pink at the edges, later becoming almost pure white, creating the impression of apple blossom. They have a strong, pleasing musky fragrance that carries over a wide area. It produces masses of small, oval, orange-red hips in the autumn.     A rose of delicate charm with beautifully formed flowers, which nod gracefully on the stem. When the petals open they expose numerous stamens, providing an almost water lily-like effect. The flowers are a pale glowing pink, shading to palest pink on the outer petals. There is a strong and delicious fragrance with aspects of Old Rose, musk and myrrh.     This variety has particularly beautiful blooms. The many petalled cups, gradually open to form quite large, flat rosettes. The colour is a very attractive shade of soft yellow, the petals paling prettily towards the edges. The flowers are produced freely and repeat well.     A repeat-flowering rambler; it bears unusual, very attractive flowers of soft salmon-pink, which quickly fade to a light pink. They are medium-sized and very full, the quill shaped petals radiating out from a button eye. There is a strong apple fragrance with a hint of chrysanthemum. Its graceful lax growth is easy to train.     Beautiful, little, rosette-shaped flowers are held in large, open sprays with each bloom held separately from the rest, creating a delicate, airy effect. They are a lovely pale pink colour and have a wonderfully strong musky fragrance. Although it is only once flowering, its blooms are borne in great abundance, making a magnificent display. A tall, vigorous climber; it produces many long, slim, flexible branches which trail gracefully, hanging down elegantly from their support. Paul, 1876.

    Bears large heads of small, creamy white, semi-double flowers which eventually fade to white. They have a powerful musky clove scent and are produced in great abundance on strong, dense, twiggy growth. The flowers are followed by masses of small hips in the autumn.
