Many of David Austin’s English Roses have won awards, both nationally and internationally, for their delicious fragrances and outstanding garden performance as shrubs and as climbers. A number of varieties are recipients of the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) Award of Garden Merit (AGM). The AGM awards are designed to help gardeners make informed choices about plants. Only plants meeting its high standards for outstanding quality and reliable garden performance bear the prestigious RHS stamp of approval. Other accolades include The Nation’s Favourite Rose for ‘Gertrude Jekyll‘ and The World’s Favourite Rose for ‘Graham Thomas’.

    Always one of the first English Roses to start flowering, its perfect scrolled buds open to large, rosette-shaped flowers of bright glowing pink. The beautiful, perfectly balanced Old Rose scent is often described as being the quintessential Old Rose fragrance. A vigorous rose; it will form a medium-sized, upright shrub.     One of the largest-flowered English Roses, bearing rich yellow blooms in the form of giant cups. They have a strong Tea fragrance, developing wonderfully combined notes of Sauternes wine and strawberry.     Exquisite half-open blooms of lovely mid pink, open to form loosely reflexed flowers. It is always one of the first of the Summer Flowering Old Roses to bloom and has a strong and particularly fine Old Rose fragrance. Unknown, c.1832.

    Queen of Denmark

    Old Rose
    One of the finest of all the Old Roses. Pretty, cupped buds open to large, beautifully formed, quartered, slightly reflexing flowers, each with a central button eye. They are a soft glowing shade of pink, with a particularly strong and delicious Old Rose fragrance. It forms a vigorous shrub with thorny growth and attractive grey-green leaves. Booth, 1826.

    English Shrub Rose
    Dark red buds with dashes of orange, open to chalice-shaped blooms of rich tangerine orange, with yellow-orange on the outside of the petals. They are held against very dark, bronzy green, polished leaves that slowly become dark green with age. The flowers have a strong, delicious, fruity fragrance with hints of pear, grape and citrus fruits. The growth is fairly upright but quite broad and bushy. David Austin, 2005.

    English Shrub Rose
    Bears very deep, velvety crimson blooms, with lighter coloured outer petals. They are large cups at first, becoming shallowly cupped with time. There is a strong Old Rose fragrance with fruity notes of blackberry, blueberry and damson notes. The bushy, spreading growth forms a broad shrub; the young red-bronze leaves later turn mid-green.
