    Harlow Carr

    English Standard Rose
A tough and particularly healthy little rose that bears flowers of the most perfect formation - shallow cups of the purest rose pink. These hold their form to the end; the occasional petal falling back to give a pleasing effect. The young foliage is bronze at first, later becoming green. There is a strong, pure Old Rose fragrance that has been described as reminiscent of rose-based cosmetics. .

    Claire Austin

    English Standard Rose
There is something a little special about white roses - they are all purity and light - and yet really good white roses are rare among English Roses and Hybrid Tea Roses alike. This is because white roses are very difficult to breed. 'Claire Austin' bears pleasingly cupped buds of a pale lemon shade which gradually open to form large, creamy white flowers of typical English Musk delicacy; their petals perfectly arranged in concentric circles, with a few more loosely arranged in the centre. They have a strong fragrance based on myrrh with dashes of meadowsweet, vanilla and heliotrope. Strong and particularly healthy. Undoubtedly one of our finest white roses to date. .

    Golden Celebration

    English Standard Rose
This is one of the largest-flowered of all our English Roses, excelling in all climates. The rich golden yellow flowers are in the form of giant, full-petalled cups. These are initially tea-scented but often develop a wonderful combination of Sauternes wine and strawberry. The flowers are held beautifully poised, slightly nodding on long arching branches. The ample foliage is large, glossy and light green, resisting disease well.

    English Standard Rose
Soft orange-red buds open to medium-sized, cupped rosettes of perfect apricot colouring. They are produced almost continuously, are extremely robust and have a lovely fruity Tea scent. Very healthy. Named to mark the centenary of Roald Dahl's birth, with the approval of his wife, Liccy Dahl - the colouring reminiscent of the eponymous peach in James and the Giant Peach. Jubilee Celebration

    English Standard Rose
This is one of the finest roses we have introduced so far. Its large, domed flowers are of a lovely rich salmon-pink with tints of gold on the underside of the petals; each bloom being elegantly held well above the foliage. Despite the size of the flowers, they are produced with exceptional freedom and continuity. There is a strong, deliciously fruity scent with hints of fresh lemon and raspberry. It is very healthy and reliable with lush, green foliage.

Each bloom is packed with numerous small petals, arranged around a classic button eye. There is a delicious, medium-strong tea rose fragrance. It is very free-flowering and repeats well. This is one of the most beautiful English Roses and, for those with particularly cold winters, it is also one of the hardiest.

  1. Gentle Hermione

    Gentle Hermione

    English Standard Rose
This variety bears some of the most perfectly formed flowers of true old rose character. Starting as attractive, nicely rounded buds, the flowers gradually open to shallow cups with perfectly arranged petals. Their colour is pure pink with soft blush on the outside and a lovely pure pink at the centre; the whole effect being totally charming. As the blooms age, the colour of the outer petals softens to a pearly shade. It has excellent health and the petals are particularly resistant to rain. The leaves are tinged red at first, later turning green, then dark green with age. It has a strong, warm, classic myrrh fragrance. .

    Graham Thomas

    English Standard Rose
Bears medium-sized, cupped blooms. Their colour is an unusually rich, pure yellow that would be hard to match even among modern roses, and is entirely missing among Old Roses. There is a medium-strong, fresh tea rose fragrance, with a cool violet character typical of its colour group. It has attractive, smooth green foliage. Good repeat-flowering from early summer onwards.

  1. Lady Emma Hamilton

    Lady Emma Hamilton

    English Standard Rose
A variety of rather unusual colouring for an English Rose, but nonetheless very pleasing and useful for creating a little excitement in the border. Before the flowers even begin to open, the outside of the buds are a most wonderful dark red with dashes of orange. When fully open, the flowers have an attractive, incurving chalice shape. Their colouring was new to the English Roses: a lovely mixture of rich, almost tangerine orange on the inside of the petals and a more yellow orange on the outside; the whole set off against the very dark, bronzy green, polished leaves that slowly become dark green with age. The flowers have a strong, delicious, fruity fragrance with hints of pear, grape and citrus fruits. Their colour varies a little according to the season, gradually changing as more of the inner petals are exposed to create a wonderful contrast. It flowers freely and remains healthy.

  2. Munstead Wood

    Munstead Wood

    English Standard Rose
Light crimson buds gradually open to reveal very deep velvety crimson blooms, with lighter coloured outer petals. The flowers are large cups at first, becoming shallowly cupped with time. As the flowers age, we get glimpses of the stigma and stamens amongst the petals. There is a strong Old Rose scent which our fragrance expert, Robert Calkin, assesses as warm and fruity with blackberry, blueberry and damson notes". A healthy variety.
