WHAT IS A BARE ROOT ROSE? Bare root roses are rose plants delivered without foliage and soil and are traditionally planted in dormancy in the winter months (October-April). Not only are bare root roses cost-effective, particularly when planted en masse, they are also easy to handle and delivered in plastic-free packaging. Planting bare roots in the winter allows their roots to establish and produce bountiful blooms by the next flowering season.

Origin of Name

Named for the Tennyson Society. The name is taken from one of Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s poems to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his birth. The poem tells the story of The Lady of Shalott, who lived in a castle close to King Arthur’s Camelot and was held in a spell.
