A BLOOMING MARVELLOUS £84,000
In 2016, David Austin had the pleasure of releasing a marvellous new rose to mark the centenary of Roald Dahl’s birth. Befitting the tales of the renowned children’s author, the ‘Roald Dahl’ English Shrub Rose has a great character and perfect rich peach colouring, reminiscent of the magnificent fruit in ‘James and the Giant Peach’. The rose was launched in partnership with Roald Dahl Marvellous Children’s Charity, with the aim of raising £100,000 in donations towards their wonderful work to ensure that every seriously ill child has access to the best care they and their families need.
Donations from the sale of each rose have raised over £84,000 so far, helping to fund more specialist Roald Dahl Children’s Nurses across the UK, as well as provide vital support to families caring for seriously ill children who are in financial hardship through the charity’s Marvellous Family Grants programmes. These grants help families by funding support in the form of specialist equipment, creative therapies or even hospital travel expenses. The money raised so far is enough to fund one vital Roald Dahl nursing post for a year and provide around 65,
often life-changing grants.
To celebrate our partnership so far and the wonderful work of the charity, it was a real pleasure to welcome a group of specialist Roald Dahl Nurses and the charity’s CEO, to our gardens in Albrighton for a marvellous day out.
“It was an absolute joy and privilege to visit David Austin Roses. Thank you to the team for making our day so interesting and enjoyable, and for your ongoing support.”

A perfect opportunity to share insight into the passion and care that sits at the heart of our respective work, it was a delight to give our visitors a exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Rose Gardens and Breeding House, as well as a walk through the late David Austin Snr.’s own garden, where his ‘Roald Dahl’ roses were in beautiful bloom. A truly marvellous day was had by all!
