Explore David C. H. Austin’s Private Garden
OPEN WEEKENDS | 9am - 5pm (During the summer months only)
Wander through the garden where David C. H. Austin’s passion for roses took root and blossomed into a business in 1961 with the release of his first rose, Constance Spry. This traditional yet informal country garden offers a softer contrast to the more formal rose gardens nearby. Its borders, both established and newly planted, weave together over 35 varieties of English and non-English shrub, rambling, and climbing roses, alongside a tapestry of herbaceous perennials, shrubs, and a wildflower meadow - an abundant sanctuary for pollinators and wildlife.
The garden encircles Bowling Green House, the birthplace of our business and the building illustrated in the iconic David Austin® logo. A Grade II listed structure dating to 1696, it was built by the Talbot family, the Earls of Shrewsbury. Scattered throughout the garden is the sculptural work of Mrs. Pat Austin, wife of David C. H. Austin and mother of Chairman David J. C. Austin.
