It is exceptionally healthy, almost thornless and will tolerate shade. A compact enough climber for almost any garden, it brings a complex colour palette of dark puce stems with rich green foliage contrasted against sprays of vibrant pink buds which fade to soft pink blooms. For me, the way the ballerina tutu blooms catch the evening light and dance on the stems in the breeze make it a must have.

          Description
A delicately beautiful, rather unusual climber, bearing pretty pointed buds which open to medium-sized, loosely double, light pink flowers. Produced in large open sprays over a very long season, the flowers are held on slender dark stems and gradually open to expose golden stamens. There is a light-medium Old Rose scent with hints of fruit. It is healthy and almost thornless with relatively small, dark green leaves.

            Truly beautiful

I have a few roses from David Austin now and can say without any doubt that they are all truly beautiful. Mary Delaney is my most recent purchase. The fragrance is light and the petals are a pleasure to see.

            Gorgeous colour and scent

Very pleased with this rose which we are growing up a fence. Would like it to be denser in coverage but our climate in north devon is not ideal for roses.

            Disappointing

Mary Delaney was planted summer 2023, and we expected great things in 2024. While there was a reasonable amount of growth, flowering was poor, so really quite disappointed. The fact that I’ve not got any photos to illustrate is an indication of there not having been anything to photograph.
